A busy Dunstable supermarket will be closing soon for one week only as part of its multi-million pound revamp.

Sainsbury’s, in Luton Road, will shut temporarily from 6pm on Tuesday, October 23 and will reopen at 9am on Wednesday, October 31.

Meanwhile, the petrol station will be closed from 6pm on Sunday, October 21 and will be up and running again at 9am on October 31, in line with the store relaunch.

A major makeover has already been given to the store’s car park.

This week, the team said they will be extending the clothing and home ranges in the revamped store.

A bigger and better pharmacy is already in place.

Cafe facilities will also be improved as part of the refurbishment.

New fridges and freezers will be installed in the store.

Improvements are also planned for the petrol station.

Store manager Jim Bavington said: “Firstly, I apologise to all our customers.

“I understand that it has been disruptive during the car park refurbishment and the early stages of our store refurbishment.

“We have tried to keep the impact to a minimum.

“We are going to be bringing you a better shopping experience with improved ranges in many areas.

“But for the safety of our customers and colleagues, it is necessary for us to close between the dates stated.”

The manager said the team are “very excited” about the project.

Dunstable mayor Councillor Patricia Staples will attend the reopening, along with Dunstable students.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to mark the special occasion.

Dunstable Salvation Army is the store’s charity of the year, and will be sending a band along to the relaunch.

And a gift will be given to the first customer through the door of the new-look store to celebrate the big day.
