Dunstable Town 6 Oxhey Jets 0
AFTER Saturday’s humiliating 1-0 loss in the Dunstable derby to AFC, the Blues shed some players and responded to the criticism heaped their way with a convincing 6-0 win against Oxhey Jets at Creasey Park in Molten Spartan SML Premier on Tuesday night.
Town had already beaten the Jets 4-2 at Boundary Park and thus completed their first league double of the season thanks to goals from Nathan Frater, George Brinkman, a scorcher by Peter Holmes, Craig Henney, Jonathan Cooper and Dean Brennan
The result brings Dunstable level with Royston as the league’s top scorers so far with 58 goals, but remain eight points behind now having played the same amount of games.
Director of football John McLoughlin said: “Following our defeat on Saturday a shake-up was called for and the players responded with a 6-0 win against Oxhey Jets.
“Mark Boyce, Stephen Coles and Craig Henney came back into the squad with Matthew Judge, Leon Fisher and Lee Roache being released after Saturday’s match.
“We are trying to win a league title at Dunstable Town and that takes pride, passion and commitment.
“Without these three ingredients then you struggle to be part of this squad.
“It was a great win that keeps us in second place behind Royston and trust me, we will be giving it our all. Let’s see where we are at Christmas.
“Danny Hutchins is back in training this week and Nick Leach is soon to return, we then have players fighting week in week out for a place.
“I won’t harp on about Saturday but we got beaten by a team with half our budget who more importantly they worked as a team.
“Let’s hope my players have learnt from that.”
Dunstable led by a solitary goal at the interval, Frater hooking home from just outside the penalty area.
Jets responded well and had a number of chances including an open goal opportunity, but they couldn’t find the net.
Dunstable utterly destroyed their resistance in the second half and Holmes scored the goal of the game within a minute of the restart with a magnificent long range effort.
On the hour Brinkman dinked in a close range third and substitute Henney made an instant impact when he made the most of Jets losing possession close and slammed home with virtually his first touch.
A minute later Cooper found the top corner with a typically cunning strike and just before the final whistle, Brennan completed the rout with a low strike into the bottom corner.
Town entertain Hadley on Saturday.
