BEDFORDSHIRE Police has invested £41,000 in a new website and staff intranet system which went live last week.
The new internet page, which is a collaboration with Hertfordshire Constabulary, which will also launch a new site soon, requires minimal training and increases the number of officers and staff who can update information on the internet and intranet.
The site also removes the need for double entries for collaborated units and enables officers and staff from both forces to support each other’s sites if traffic increases because of a major incident.
Security is better and more up to date, according to the force and online transactions are quicker. Videos can also now be posted online.
Claire Hughes, head of corporate communications, said: “At a time when the police are facing cutbacks in their budgets making the best use of electronic communication is even more important.
“The enormous success of the Bedfordshire Police Facebook page, with over 7,300 people signed up, shows that the internet is now a major way the police can keep in touch with local people about how we are fighting crime and combating anti-social behaviour.
“It enables us to provide large amounts of useful information to residents about how they can protect themselves, their homes and their property against criminals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Bedfordshire’s new website is easier to update, enables a larger number of officers and staff to use it to put important information out to the public and is more secure.
“Collaborating with Hertfordshire has yet again provided cost-efficiencies and enables information on collaborated units to be shared more easily.”
