MANSHEAD Upper School is celebrating its “continuing improvement” after being deemed satisfactory by Ofsted.

Five inspectors from the education watchdog visited the Dunstable school last month and said good teaching is “now the norm”.

They also praised student behaviour and commented on a leadership and management team that has been “strengthened since the last inspection by more experienced senior and middle leaders who are clear and passionate about their purpose, and confident through their proven track record”.

This year Manshead celebrated its best-ever set of A-Level results, with a 99 per cent pass rate. And inspectors noted the “good” sixth form provision.

The report read: “Teachers particularly enjoy their sixth form work and this is reflected in students’ positivity, participation in lessons and good attendance.”

Inspectors suggested the school could now improve further by diagnosing student strengths and weaknesses early in order to differentiate levels of challenge.

Ofsted also recommended staff to learn from best practice and work with harder to reach parents and carers, to support students.

Headteacher Jim Parker said: “I am very pleased that Ofsted recognised, once again, the continuing improvement we have been making to the quality of teaching at Manshead School.

“We have placed a lot of emphasis on making lessons engaging for all students and it is good to see this having an impact on exam results and on the inspection findings.

“I am also pleased that Ofsted noted the good behaviour of the students and that our distinctive ethos based on core values of respect, responsibility, faith and compassion is prominent within the school.

“The inspection report identifies many strengths for us to build on as we work with the Learning Partnership of local schools to improve the quality of education at all ages in our community. We are in pursuit of excellence and I am delighted that OFSTED have recognised our continuing progress, our capacity to continue the journey, and our focus on our next challenges rather our current successes.”
