OAP robbed as she shops

An elderly woman was robbed of a large amount of cash by as she browsed a clothes shop in Dunstable on Monday (August 20).

The 85-year-old victim was in Bonmarché with her daughter at about 11.30am – shortly after withdrawing the money from the bank.

She was approached in the Quadrant Centre store by a man – believed to be Romanian – who asked for advice on buying clothes.

The victim was then approached by a woman – also believed to be Romanian – who struck up a similar conversation.

A few minutes later, the female offender left the shop, quickly followed by the male.

It was not until the victim went to pay for her purchases at the till that she noticed the envelope containing her money was missing.

The male offender is described as white, aged between 30 and 35, 5ft 8ins tall and of muscular build.

He was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and carrying a Disneyland brochure.

The female offender is also described as white, aged between 25 and 30, about 5ft 1ins tall, of slim build and with short dark hair.

She was wearing a brown top with short sleeves and dark trousers.

PC Jamie O’Leary, investigating, is keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the theft, or may have seen the offenders leaving Bonmarché after the incident.
