Bleak week for Barton as Rovers taste double defeat

Previous: DUNSTABLE Town bounced back from their FA Vase elimination with a thrilling 4-3 SML Premier victory over Hanwell Town on Tuesday night. Town were behind after just five minutes when Blaise O’Brien netted from close range, but Blues were level on 10 minutes thanks to Luke Flood’s free header. The hosts were in front when Kerran Birch’s sweeping pass was finished emphatically by Luke Lincoln, while the striker made it 3-1 soon afterwards, converting a corner. Hanwell were not beaten though and reduced the arrears through James Hatcher, before Flood conceded a penalty. Although keeper Paul Taylor did well to save O’Brien’s effort, the forward spared his own blushes by tucking home the rebound. A breathless first half made way for a tighter second period as Nathan Frater and Luke Abraham came close, while Lincoln was inches away from Dale Turney’s cross. The winner finally came in the 78th minute when Frater side-footed home Abraham’s cross as Town climbed to eighth in the table. On Saturday, Blues were humbled in the FA Vase fifth round as, despite leading 1-0 at half time, they went down 5-1 to holders Whitley Bay, with Abraham on target for the visitors. This weekend, Town host Haringey Borough in the league, while on Tuesday night they entertain Colney Heath.

Aylesbury and Biggleswade prove too strong

BArton Rovers slipped to defeat against Zamaretto Southern League Division One Central play-off chasers Aylesbury as they went down 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Dan Kennoy’s visitors had got off to a bright start, but too often their final ball went awry and Aylesbury took advantage to open the scoring after 33 minutes when Glen Hawkins netted.

After the break, Barton keeper Richard Wilmot was called into action to prevent the second goal, but it arrived on 63 minutes when Jack Thomson rifled home.

Rovers were also beaten 3-1 at Biggleswade Town on Saturday and will be hoping to pick up some much-needed points when they host Bedworth Town this weekend and Slough Town on Tuesday night.
