LUTON AC runner Daniel Clorley made a brave effort to qualify for the 1,500m at the London 2012 when he competed at the Aviva Olympic Trials and UK Championships in Birmingham over the weekend.

The televised meeting at Alexander stadium attracted the countries top athletes as wet and windy conditions lead to slow, tactical races.

Clorley, 21, finished strongly in his heat to qualify for the final clocking 3.47mins, the same time as World 5,000m champion Mo Farah.

He faded in the latter stages of the final though, finishing in 3.52.75 to come 11th.

Clorley is now leaving Birmingham University to begin an athletics scholarship in New York this September.
