EX-Luton striker Jason Walker has caused controversy by parading an ‘RIP Luton’ sign on York City’s open top victory bus tour just a day after claiming he didn’t want to celebrate in front of his former team-mates at Wembley so as not to cause offence, writes Mark Wood.

The Minstermen triumphed 2-1 in Sunday’s play-off final to book a return to the Football League and the striker admitted he had curbed his celebrations out of respect for the Luton players.

Walker said: “You don’t know what to say. They congratulate you and you just tell them you are grateful to everyone.

“I was celebrating and seen Danny Crow who is a good friend of mine and I didn’t want to rub it in his face or anything. I didn’t want to rub it in anyone’s face, so I just reserved my celebrations there for them.

A day later though he ‘caved’ to ‘peer pressure’, before moments later, he tweeted on his @jason9walker twitter account: “I’m very drunk and caved into pure peer pressure, sorry to everyone iv offended, Neva meant it #sorry.”
