A NEW 20mph speed limit zone for areas in north-west and south-west Dunstable has been given the green light.
Central Beds Council gave the go-ahead to the £40,000 scheme at a traffic management meeting.
Public consultation has been held into the road safety project.
A report to the meeting stated: “Central Bedfordshire Council wishes to introduce 20mph speed limit zones in all of Dunstable’s residential areas.
“The current scheme represents phases one and two in this process, and it is intended that the remainder will follow in subsequent financial years.”
The Gazette has previously reported on the ideas for the scheme, which the council says is being undertaken following feedback during the local area transport plan consultation.
The team says it wants to improve safety for all road users in the residential areas within the zone.
It also aims to improve the quality of the environment and help promote walking and cycling.
