A MAN suffered a fractured jaw after being attacked for shooing away a dog that ran up to him on Dunstable Downs.
The victim was walking at the beauty spot at about 12.30pm on Friday, December 30 when he was approached by a white-and-brown boxer dog.
The attacker – believed to be the dog’s owner – accused the man of kicking his pet and launched a verbal tirade.
Despite the victim’s attempts to walk away from the situation, he was hit on the back of the head and kicked several times on the ground.
He was treated at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital where a double fracture of the jaw was confirmed.
The offender is described as a well-built white man in his mid-20s who was wearing sandy-coloured ‘workmen style’ boots when the incident happened.
He was seen getting into a vehicle and driving towards Dunstable following the assault.
Det Sgt Katie Dounias, investigating, said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack which has left a man with a very serious injury which will take a long time to heal.
“Dunstable Downs is a very well visited destination and I’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or anyone else who may have information.”
