A BAND of metalheads may sound a bit scary, but this quintet have proved their hearts are made of gold after adding their support to the Help Lilly Appeal.
The metal group – made up of 14-year-old vocalist Bradley Adams, Ivan Williams, 18, and Adam Kite, 18, on guitar, 16-year-old Anna Marner on bass and drummer Simon Longe, 24 – are organising a benefit gig in aid of Lilly MacGlashan. But they need a venue to hold the event.
Little Lilly is suffering from a rare cancer called neuroblastoma and her family, who live in Lowther Road, Dunstable, are trying to raise £300,000 to send her to New York for pioneering drug treatment.
The band decided to arrange a live music event after a non-uniform day was held at Queensbury School, Dunstable, where Bradley and Anna are pupils.
The metal band mainly perform covers, including hits from Queens Of The Stone Age and Bullet For My Valentine, but are currently working on their own material.
Bradley’s mum Carey Adams said: “Lilly’s plight has captured everybody and we have managed to get three other very talented bands of very mixed genre and ages to join up.
“We have a sound technician and lighting technician on board and everyone has given their time and talent all free of charge.”
The group have decided to call themselves Lilly’s Band for the gig, in tribute to the little girl.
And they hope to use her name as part of their own band name in future.
“It’s very likely that they will incorporate a form of the name Lilly into the final band name,” said Carey, of Pipers Croft, Dunstable.
“Lilly was Adam’s first wife and was kicked out of the Garden of Eden and Lillian is supposed to be the 10th muse, the muse of inspiration.
“Apparently Lilly can also mean nightmare and the first song in their set list is Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold.”
The Help Lilly Fund is now close to the half way point following numerous successful fundraisers in Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Luton.
Lilly’s big sister Danielle said: “We are almost half way there now. It’s really great. I find it really overwhelming and emotional because everybody has been so great.”
