TWO men were arrested yesterday morning (March 2) in connection with a burglary in Dunstable that was committed less than two hours earlier.

Beds Police were called to Northview Road shortly after 4.30am following a report that electrical goods had been stolen from a home and a car taken from the driveway.

Officers, including a dog handler, launched an immediate search of the area on foot and just before 5.50am the car was recovered in Houghton Regis.

Two teenagers were arrested at a property in Houghton Regis on suspicion of burglary.

As the Herald&Post went to press yesterday, the pair were being interviewed at Dunstable Police Station.

The speedy arrests follow repeated warnings by police that action to drive down burglary has been stepped up across the county.

Initiatives includes a crime prevention campaign that reminds residents to double lock UPVC doors at night, keep valuables out of sight and to security mark goods with a product like SmartWater, to make it more difficult for stolen goods to be sold on without being identified.

Det Sgt Dale Mepstead, of the Dunstable-based Priority Crime Investigation Team, said: “This was an excellent piece of teamwork by officers, which has resulted in a significant development in this inquiry.”

Anyone with information about burglary can contact the Priority Crime Investigation Team, in confidence, on 01582 473195.
