THE regulars at a village boozer have honoured their beloved landlord with a special plaque to commemorate his 30th year behind the bar.

Colin Edwynn, 77, has been pulling pints and raising smiles at The Queen’s Head, of The Lane, Tebworth, since 1981.

And it’s not just the punters he’s kept entertained over the years.

If the popular landlord looks familiar, it’s because he’s acted in some of Britain’s best-loved TV shows.

Colin, who was born in Manchester, appeared as recurring character PC Jimmie Conway in Coronation Street between 1967 to 1972.

He also played bit-parts in Emmerdale, Wycliffe, Heartbeat, Bergerac, Minder and dinnerladies.

In a starring role, he acted alongside David Jason and Brenda Blethyn in the The Bullion Boys (1993), which was an award-winning edition in the BBC anthology film series.

The appreciative punters clubbed together to get the plaque as a surprise gift to celebrate Colin’s third decade running the pub.

Satisfied drinker Adrian Godfrey, 57, who travels to the watering hole from Luton, said: “Colin is an absolutely wonderful landlord and everyone loves him. He’s so charismatic and loves a joke. And I love hearing all the stories from his TV career.”

He added: “Colin’s not bad at pulling the odd pint too!”

The jocular landlord said: “I was absolutely gobsmacked to receive the plaque. After all, you’re not usually still alive when you get one!”

Added Colin: “There’s other people in the village that are way more deserving than I am. All I’ve done is run a pub for 30 years.

“It’s a pleasure when the villagers are so nice. And we always have lots of fun.”

The Tebworth man told the Gazette his fondest memories in television were working with his good friends Les Dawson and Ken Dodd.

The Queen’s Head, which holds a regular spot in The Good Beer Guide, has darts and domino nights, as well as live music every Friday and every other Monday.

So if you like your pubs friendly, your ale fine, and a landlord with a few tales to tell, have a wander down to Tebworth and find out what all the fuss is about.
