THE life of the late Chris Locke was celebrated with a tree-planting ceremony at the school he served as headteacher for almost 20 years.
About 25 people were present at Ashton CofE Middle School to watch the acer tree being planted by Mr Locke’s wife Jill.
The much-loved Mr Locke, who retired in 2007, passed away in August after suffering from Parkinson’s disease and lung problems.
Anna Lawrence, who was a student at the school until 2007, gave a speech about her memories of her late headteacher.
Current head teacher Nicholas Sharpe said: “It went very well and there were some lovely tributes.”
By the tree rests a plaque that reads: “In celebration of the life of Chris Locke, Head Teacher 1989-2007”.
