Firewalk family raise funds for theatre group

BRAVE 10-year-old Jasmine Zaldua-Taylor didn’t think twice when she was given the chance to walk through fire in aid of charity.

Her courage has made her a bit of a record breaker. She’s the youngest fire-walker ever trained by the organisers behind an event held in Eaton Bray to raise funds for Curtain Call, who are a Linslade theatre group, St Mary’s Church in Eaton Bray and Lancot Lower School’s football club from Dunstable.

It took a lot of effort to persuade her parents, Rosie and Nigel, but eventually they not only agreed - but joined in too along with her brother Reuben.

Said Jasmine: “I did it for fun, but mainly because I knew the money was going to good causes, including Curtain Call Youth theatre, which I go to.

“I felt nervous and excited at the same time, but my mum and dad were more nervous than me. Now I can’t wait to do the walk again. I felt very proud, surprised. Everyone was clapping and cheering which felt really good too.”

The Zaldua-Taylors, who live in Lancot Drive, Dunstable, raised £250 alone while the others who joined the firewalk also raised funds for the three groups.

Rosie, Linslade School parent governor was also joined on the coals by fellow governor, Julie Tubby. Afterwards the proud mum said: “No one was hurt doing the walk, not even a tiny blister in sight. Jasmine was the youngest person the company who organised it had trained in their 20 years experience while Reuben, who is 13, was the second youngest.”
