Building work has begun on a new business incubation centre in Dunstable that will house about 20 environmentally-responsible fledgling companies, creating hundreds of jobs in the area.

MP for South West Beds Andrew Selous was present on Friday (October 26) to help break ground on the £3.5million project at the site in Brewers Hill Road.

The centre will be ran and part-funded by Central Beds College, who will offer training support to start-up businesses.

Mr Selous said: “It’s a great pleasure to see Central Beds College taking the initiative in creating something of real value to the economic development of this area.

“Incuba is an imaginative project which neatly brings together the need to support new business activity and the need to provide skills training so that these ventures are able to grow and develop in those crucial first few months and years.”

Ali Hadawi CBE, the college’s principal, said: “It’s very exciting to see work beginning, knowing that this brownfield site is going to be transformed into something of real value to Dunstable and the surrounding area.”

The centre is the first in a number of projects proposed for the Brewers Hill Road area, where Central Beds Council hope to create 27,000 jobs by 2026.
