MORE than 60 cannabis plants were found after a police raid on an industrial unit in Dunstable on Wednesday (Feb 16).
Officers executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Boscombe Road in the Woodside Industrial Estate at around 10.30am.
Following a search of the premises, police uncovered a cannabis factory – two rooms containing more than 60 plants were discovered as well as growing equipment.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating a class B drug. He was later released on police bail until April 21.
Around 200 cannabis factories have been closed down by Beds Police across the county, the majority of which have been in residential houses.
By the time the police are involved, the property has usually suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Cannabis plants need heat and humidity to produce a good crop, so to help the hundreds of plants reach maturity fast, the growers rig up sophisticated hydroponic systems.
If you suspect a house in your street could be a cannabis factory, look out for windows always closed and curtains permanently drawn, excessive condensation at windows, pungent smells, many frequent different visitors to the property, excessive security measures added to property such as bars at the windows or reinforced doors or lookouts - usually young people hanging about outside to warn the users of potential trouble
A force spokesman said: “Bedfordshire Police will continue to crack down on those who deal in drugs.
“This type of behaviour is known to fuel other kinds of crime such as robbery and burglaries.
“Anyone who has information relating to illegal drugs activities in their area, can contact Bedfordshire Police in complete confidence on 01234 841212, and we will always act on information given.”
