Dunstable residents were given a blast from the past last weekend as a gallery of the town’s rock ‘n’ roll history opened at Priory House.
The California Ballroom Exhibition is full of original posters, artefacts and photographs from the 1960s and 1970s heyday of Dunstable’s famous music venue.
The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Lulu and Tina Turner all graced the stage of the Whipsnade Road concert hall.
Included in the display are a pair of Stevie Wonder’s cufflinks, original decor from the club and a signed Bob Marley album – there are even some old clippings from your very own Dunstable Gazette.
Resident Carol Reynolds used to enjoy partying at California Ballroom, and here she is pictured immersing herself in nostalgia.
Dunstable Town Councillor Liz Jones said: “It’s important that as a town we don’t just look back a few hundred years at Dunstable’s history, but that we also look back at more recent historical chapters in the town’s heritage.”
The free exhibition will be open to the public at Priory House Heritage Centre, 33 High Street South, Monday-Saturdays from 10am-4pm, until December 8.
