Incredibly no one was injured following this car fire in Dunstable yesterday.
Fire crews received a call at about 12.20pm after a car was engulfed in flames in High Street North.
Only one water pump from Dunstable was required and traffic disruption was minimal. The fire was out by 12.40pm.
Vania Lampitt, who took the photograph through the window of the nail salon she was sitting in, told the Herald&Post: “Smoke started coming out of the car and then got worse.
“All the traffic had to reverse out of the way. Then the tyres just popped.
“A few minutes later – maybe five – it was completely on fire.”
Gill Doolan saw the blaze from the Dunstable Conservative Club. She said: “What with the traffic like it is in Dunstable, it took the fire engine a few minutes to get to the car.
“I saw it when it was fully ablaze. It was quite a big fire – it was completely burned out by the end of it.
“When the fire engine did get to the fire they put it out pretty quickly.
“Someone told me that there was a gentlemen in the car who got out before it set on fire.”
An ambulance crew was not required. Police have been informed.
