Hatters duo mystified by red card decision

Town duo Simon Ainge and Dan Walker were both highly critical of referee Lee Swabey after his decision to send off Stuart Fleetwood on Tuesday night, writes Mike Simmonds.

The striker saw red for two bookable offences, the first when he was adjudged to have dived trying to win a penalty, before another booking for a late challenge.

Walker said: “I can’t really comment. Some of the refs in this league seem to make dodgy decisions.

“I’m sure in every league you’re not going to get the right decision all the time, but we’ve got to get on with it.

“Stuart isn’t that type of player though and I don’t think he’s ever been sent off in his career.

“It killed us going down to 10 men, if we hadn’t we’d have won the game.”

Ainge added: “I think he got both decisions wrong.

“Things like that happen in games, we’ve got to deal with it. We’re not going to get every decision, but at times you couldn’t tell it was 10 v 11 men.

“It was frustrating that we came away with nothing, I think we at least deserved a point. The stats show from crosses and corners that we had a lot more than them.

“I think the lads have done really well with 10 men to get it back to 2-2.

“We had the crowd behind us, we had the momentum. If we’d had another 10 minutes we’d have got another goal.

“We’re disappointed to concede a sloppy goal on a set-piece which is something we’ve done well on the last few games.

“We need to pick ourselves up and get ready for Saturday for now.”
