Hatters fell five points behind new Blue Square Bet Premier leaders Newport County this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Welsh side had trailed mid-table Southport in their home clash before former Town attacker Aaron O’Connor equalised on 76 minutes with his eighth goal of the season and Ben Swallow netted a dramatc last-gasp winner.

Forest Green are up to second after an impressive 2-1 win at fourth placed Macclesfield Town. Matty Taylor put the visitors ahead, while the Silkmen were then reduced to 10 men when Hatters loanee John Paul Kissock was dismissed.

Ex-Luton forward Matthew Barnes-Homer levelled the scores, only to then see Stephen Brogan pounce with an injury time winner.

The late goals theme continued as third place Wrexham were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Dartford.

The Conference new boys took a fourth minute lead through Danny Harris, before Danny Wright and Andy Bishop made it 2-1 at the break.

It stayed that way until the death when Lee Noble bagged a stoppage time leveller.

Hatters dropped out of the play-off places and were replaced by Grimsby, who thumped them 4-1 at Blundell Park on Friday night.
