AN attack in which a man was stabbed repeatedly and hit with a hammer at a Dunstable home is being treated as attempted murder.

The incident happened at around 11pm on Friday, September 7, after the 26-year-old victim had been watching the England football match at his cousin’s home in Luton Road.

A gang forced their way into the property before stabbing the victim several times in the neck, chest and back.

He was also slashed across the back of the head and was hit on the shoulder with a hammer.

The victim’s cousin, aged 35, was attacked and knocked unconscious by the gang, who then fled.

Neither of the injured men are able to describe their attackers but witnesses have reported seeing three white men and one man of Asian appearance running away from the property.

Det Con Jo Barkat is keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the four men before or after the incident.

Detectives are checking CCTV cameras in the area.

Det Con Barkat said: “This was a vicious attack which could have easily resulted in far more serious or potentially fatal injuries.

“We have already heard from a number of witnesses but I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the attack or has any information as to who committed it, to get in touch so that we can stop something like this happening again.

“I’d like to hear from anyone who was in the Luton Road area at the time of the assault or anyone else who may have information – however small or insignificant they think it is – that could help us. Don’t dismiss your information as unimportant – even tiny details which don’t seem relevant now might become useful later on in the investigation.”

Contact Det Con Barkat, in confidence, on 01582 473368, call the non-emergency number 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
