A 16-YEAR-OLD youth was charged with dangerous driving after a series of collisions in Dunstable involving a flat-bed lorry, police cars and other vehicles.
The incident began in High Street South at about 5.20pm on Tuesday, November 1 and ended with a head-on crash between the lorry and an oncoming police car in Church Street.
Two police officers were slightly hurt and three members of the public had whiplash injuries.
One person from the lorry was taken to hospital for a check-up.
Damage was caused to four police cars, two of which were expected to be write-offs, and three other vehicles.
Long tailbacks brought rush-hour chaos to the area after the collisions, and traffic disruption continued for some time at the town centre crossroads.
The teenager has been charged with dangerous driving, aggravated taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and having no insurance.
Also charged was Peter Featherstone, aged 44, of James Street, Rotherham, accused of aggravated taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
He appeared with the teenager at Luton Magistrates Court on Thursday, November 3, and will return to court for a further hearing on January 9.
The teenager is due to appear in youth court in Doncaster on Thursday, November 10.
