An arsonist who put the lives of young children at risk is on the loose following a flat fire in Dunstable last week.
Extensive damage was caused to a stairwell in Mayfield Court after an abandoned piece of furniture was set alight on Tuesday, August 14.
A forensic examination was undertaken by police and it was determined that the fire was started deliberately.
PC Lucy Fountain, investigating, said: “The fire was in the stairwell of the flats which is the only way in and out of the building. It could potentially have resulted in fatalities as the block is full of young families who were trapped in their homes whilst the fire was dealt with.
“I would urge anyone with information about this incident or anyone who may have noticed someone acting suspiciously in the area that night to come forward and assist with this investigation.”
