Don’t Let Dunstable Die are urging everyone to nominate the town’s best volunteers after sponsoring a “fantastic” category in an upcoming business awards ceremony.
The community group – made up of Sharon Worboys and Sharon Knott – are celebrating the efforts of volunteer workers as well as sitting on the committee of the Networking @ Dunstable Business and Community Awards 2012.
DLDD co-founder Sharon Worboys told the Gazette: “There are so many volunteers in Dunstable, and they don’t get the recognition they deserve.
“We thought it would be the most appropriate category to sponsor.
“There is an army of them out there and they do fantastic work.
“We want as many nominations as possible for the huge amount of volunteers.”
The awards will be presented at Grove theatre on November 21, in a lavish ceremony hosted by legendary film critic Barry Norman’s daughter Samantha.
Other categories include: Champion of the Year; Young Hero (under 18); Start-up Business of the Year; Apprentice of the Year, and Most Green – the award for the most environmentally-friendly business.
Dunstable Mayor Claire Meakins-Jell said: “This will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success, hard work and dedication within our community, culminating in a glittering awards ceremony.
“With a wide range of categories for all, we urge everyone to nominate or enter these very prestigious awards.”
Katey Horne, co-founder of Netwroking @ Dunstable, told the Gazette: “We are extremely proud to have Long Live Dunstable on board as a sponsor alongside our other fantastic sponsors for Networking @ Dunstable Business and Community Awards.
“We believe they are an excellent fit with their chosen category, as so close to their own aims.
“The two Sharons are a fantastic example of volunteers working for the benefit of the town– in fact, we would have expected them to be winning this category!”
Business sponsorship packages start from £500, and are a unique way of gaining exposure throughout the promotion of this prestigious event.
