BRAVE Dunstable toddler Lilly MacGlashan’s condition is improving, but she still relies on the “brilliant” support of dedicated and kind-hearted fundraisers.
Two-year-old Lilly has neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer affecting 100 infants every year in the UK.
Her father, John MacGlashan, told the Gazette: “Lilly is doing really, really, really good. She’s really progressing, but still needs help.
“We have some brilliant people fundraising for Lilly. It’s like a production line – we will continue lobbying everyone for support. We can’t give up.”
With treatment unavailable in the UK, Lilly depends on the efforts of fundraisers to send her to Memorial Sloane-Kettering Hospital in New York – at $59,000 a time.
Lilly currently has to be scanned once every three months, with her next transatlantic trip coming up soon.
“She’s been told that she’s cleared, but with her condition every microscopic cell has to be cleared up,” said Mr MacGlashan.
“Lilly is catching up with her twin sister Molly. She’s starting to walk and say a few words. It will be a minimum of seven years before we can start relaxing.”
Mr MacGlashan was particularly grateful for South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous’ charity efforts.
He said: “I think he’s excellent, he’s got a lot of time for people. He’d make a good prime minister!”
St John’s Social Club in Sundon Park will be the venue for A Night With Bublé on September 7, a Lilly MacGlashan fundraiser starring 16-year-old Bradley Adams.
Bradley, who has been raising money since last year, said: “Lilly’s a Dunstable girl, so it’s nice to help one of our own.”
The show also features Bradley’s close friends, Jack Browne, 17, from Dunstable, and Emma Carey, 14, from Caddington.
Tickets cost £5 and are available at the social club or online at www.wegottickets.com.
