A DUNSTABLE nursery has won a special wildlife action award for the third year in a row as part of a nationwide campaign by the RSPB.
Willow Nursery School, Goldstone Crescent, has achieved the gold, silver and bronze versions of the award for its dedicated conservation work.
The three- and four-year-olds completed the Little Schools RSPB Birdwatch, founded a recycling club to win a climate action award and are currently observing the life cycle of butterflies.
Teacher Su Clark said: “We absolutely love letting the children learn about their natural surroundings.
“During the course of the year, they have learnt not only about the birds, bugs and animals that live close by and share our environment, but also about the environment as a whole.
“They are currently waiting patiently for their cocooned caterpillars to form into Painted Lady butterflies so that they can release them into their own wildlife garden.”
Charlotte Pledger of the RSPB said: “It’s great to have such wildlife-friendly schools in the region.
“The children and teachers at Willow Nursery show us that they have a real passion for the natural world around and that they have fun doing it. They are all stepping up to do something positive for nature and are real-life inspirations.”
