IT’S always good to welcome new businesses to Dunstable – and those with a sweet tooth will be particularly happy with Serenity Patisserie.

The Chiltern Road eatery opened on July 9 as the Olympic torch passed through the town.

It is owned by former baker John Barnes, but tended to by son Chris.

Chris told the Gazette: “We’re very popular in the mornings with builders. We go through an awful lot of bacon!

“We also sell slushies, which are very popular with the kids.

“I used to work for Woolworths and Freshers, who both went under – hopefully that doesn’t happen here!”

They have already created one job and aim to expand and recruit further, eventually offering a catering service.
