THE mainbrace was spliced and timbers shivered on Saturday as pirates took over Houghton Regis when the carnival came to town.
The Green was filled with stalls, entertainers and games.
And canine residents strutted their stuff in the Pet Dog of the Year Competition, organised by the Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust.
Fantastic costumes were on display in the carnival procession, which was won by Kings Houghton Lower School, with the 1st and 3rd Houghton Regis Scouts, Cubs and Beavers awarded the runner-up spot.
Sarah Gelsthorp, promotions and communications officer for Houghton Regis Town Council, said: “The day went really well – for more than half of the day the weather was dry and quite sunny.
“But even when it rained there was still a really great community atmosphere.
“We had 90 stalls on the village green and this year we also had the Shifting Sands theatre company, who did a great job entertaining everybody.”
