WORK began to enhance the Court Drive area of Dunstable this week, meaning some temporary traffic diversions have come into effect.
Southbound traffic from College Drive towards Queensway will be one way during the work, which is expected to continue until late autumn.
To minimise disruption, Central Beds Council will complete the work in several phases, ensuring access to all businesses and properties will be maintained at all times.
The council say that advance warning notices will be issued regarding all diversion routes.
Councillor Nigel Young said: “We want to create an inviting and safe space that people like being in and which benefits businesses on and around it.
“It is part of a bigger vision for Dunstable, designed to improve employment, housing, transport and shopping experiences and we’re confident that the whole community will benefit from these improvements.”
To create a better balanced feel, pedestrian footways are being widened and extended, street clutter such as barriers and bollards are being removed, bus lay-bys are being improved and the whole area is being landscaped. An integral part of the Luton Dunstable Busway will run through the new streetscape.
