DUNSTABLE Leisure Centre are hosting a free water safety session to help prevent drowning as part of Water Safety Awareness Week.
Available to all ages, activities and resources will be pprovided by the Royal Lifesaving Society, the UK’s natinal drowning prevention charity.
Various activities will take place during the session, including ‘Be Safe at the Beach’ and ‘Be Safe at the Swimming Pool’.
No booking is necessary, but parents are asked to remain with their children as normal while in a swimming pool.
Josie Bryant, from the leisure centre, said: “More than 400 people drown in the UK each year, and thousands suffer near-drowning experiences. Shockingly drowning is the third highest cause of accidental death in children in the UK.
“We are happy to support RLSS to reduce these numbers by informing swimmers about how to be safe in, on, or near water, while offering what we think will be a really fun sessions for our customers.”
Water Safety Week will see events across the country raise money for the RLSS’s work to provide water safety packs for school children and communities in greatest need.
The event will take place various times from Monday 18th June, contact Josie on 01582 608107 or email swim.dunstable@harpersfitness.co.uk.
