MP sees solar scheme shine to save money

ANDREW Selous met with social housing tenants in Houghton Regis whose electricity bills have been slashed thanks to new solar panels.

The MP for South West Beds was in Clarkes Way on Friday, June 1, to view the panels that have been installed on 46 properties by Habinteg Housing.

In the six months since the panels were installed, the scheme has allready generated 19,207 kwH – enough to boil 174,610 kettles.

Habinteg say a disproportionate number of disabled people experience fuel poverty.

Mr Selous said: “Habinteg’s commitment to energy efficiency for its tenants is admirable, as is such a high proportion of households in receipt of solar panels.

“This will make a huge difference to tenants, particularly disabled people.”
