AN elderly couple were targetted by distraction burglars who tricked their way into their Dunstable home.
At about 1pm on Monday, June 4, an offender knocked on the door of the Evelyn Road home asking if he could check the drains at the rear of the property.
The female victim escorted him to the back garden, but when he made his way back inside the house to turn on the taps she became suspicious and called for her husband who was sleeping upstairs.
At that point, a second offender ran down the stairs and out of the front dooor, followed by the first offender, both running towards Luton Road empty handed.
One offender is described as white, in his early 20s, 5ft 3ins, slim, and wearing a grey top.
The victim did not get a good look at the second offender other than to see he was a white male in his early 30s.
Detective Constable Steve Francis, investigating, said: “These offenders appear to have deliberately picked on an elderly woman and taken advantage of her. The victim has been left extremely distressed by what has happened and we really need the public’s help in identifying the offenders.
“I’d like to hear from anyone who was in any of the areas at the time of this incident or anyone else who may have information – however small or insignificant they think it is – that could help us. Don’t dismiss your information as unimportant – even tiny details which don’t seem relevant now might become useful later on in the investigation.
“We would remind everyone to be extremely cautious about anyone calling at their home, to always use a spy hole and door chain and to insist on identification. If you are in any way suspicious, dial 999.”
