BANKNOTE printing firm De La Rue says it is unable to say how many jobs could go with the closure of its Dunstable site, as the figure is “commercially sensitive information”.
The firm has announced proposals to close its French’s Gate plant, which the trade union Unite says could mean the loss of 150 jobs.
The site’s functions – currency printing and security printing to prevent fraud and counterfeiting – are to be transferred to Gateshead’s under the company’s improvement plan, which was announced earlier this year.
De La Rue says it is now in consultation with its workers, and that the “entire process should be completed within 18 months”.
