A PETITION against the proposed creation of a new Dunstable and Luton North parliamentary constituency has brought a government response.
That response said comments relating to Dunstable had been noted and that it was for the independent Boundary Commission to make recommendations.
The commission is expected to publish revised proposals on parliamentary constituencies later this year.
South West Beds MP Andrew Selous said: “I support the need to reduce the cost of politics by creating a House of Commons of 600 rather than 650 MPs and it is right that people’s votes should count more equally across the country by having more equal-sized constituencies.
“I do very much hope, however, that the Boundary Commission for England will think again on its specific proposals for the current South West Bedfordshire and Luton North constituencies.”
