FORMER Hatters boss Gary Brabin has been acquitted of assaulting two members of York City security staff.

Mr Brabin, who was sacked as Luton Town manager in March, had been accused of elbowing two stewards after they forcibly removed him from the technical area during a match between York City and the Hatters at Bootham Crescent in April 2011.

He had also been accused of a public order offence immediately prior to the allegation of assault. It was alleged that he used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was found guilty of this offence.

Solicitor Tayab Ali, partner at Irvine Thanvi Natas solicitors: “Gary is very pleased that the District Judge was able to see that he had not assaulted the security staff and that their accounts of what happened were untrue. It is disappointing that that the District Judge considered Gary’s attempts to vocalise his protests constituted a public order offence.”

Mr. Brabin is considering an appeal of the public order decision.
