A VILLAGE fundraising committee has raised over £2,000 for a carnival to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next month.
The group – made up of Kensworth residents – was formed in February tasked with organising events to generate funds for a village parade and ‘big lunch’ on June 4.
A St Patrick’s Day evening in March, a St George’s Day party last month and a parade of foals and thoroughbreds last Sunday (May 20) were all huge successes and made Kensworth’s June party possible.
At 12pm on the day, a royal fancy dress pprocession will walk from Isle of White Lane towards the recreation ground.
There will be prizes for the best fancy dress, and a barbecue and pork roast as well as a licensed bar as part of Kensworth ‘big lunch’ festivities – neighbours are invited to bring their own picnics and drinks, together with tables, chairs, rugs and even perhaps gazebos.
Chairman of the organising committee John Worboys said: “Special thanks are due to the members of the celebration committee, who have worked tirelessly to raise money for the celebration, and who will organise and supervise the day’s proceedings.”
