Business pair in awards final

TWO networking supremos have made it to the finals of a prestigious Bedfordshire business awards scheme, just a year after launching their group.

Katey Horne and Sandie Copp of Networking@Dunstable are up for the Networking Group of the Year title at the Federation of Small Business Bedfordshire Awards 2012, against six other groups from around the county.

The duo, who launched Networking@Dunstable last spring and now have more than 300 members, say they are thrilled just to have made it to the finals.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for us, especially in our first year,” said Sandie. “The majority of the other finalists we are up against are very well established – so to be finalists agains them is a big thing for us.”

The awards, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, take place at the Mansion House in Old Warden Park on June 13.

Asked how their group had got off to such a flying start, Katey said: “I think it’s probably because it was set up and devised in a way to suit our members.

“We really did listen to what people wanted, and we’ve had an open door policy and try and implement changes where we can.”

Word of mouth has helped too, said Sandie.

“Our core members have been very good – if they enjoy it they tell everyone else.”
