Game Guy with Darren Gargette: PREVIEW: Diablo 3: What is ... Diablo 3. I don’t normally do a feature in where I try and teach you, the reader, what a videogame is, but this week will see the end of a 12-year hiatus from one of my favourite videogame franchises. Diablo.
Develeped by Blizzard Entertainment, most commonly known for World of Warcraft have had a trio of long running series which have proven to be just as massively popular as their world beating MMORPG.
StarCraft 2 is the world’s leading Real-Time Strategy game and also follows a similar release structure of it being over a decade since their last release.
Diablo 3 is the latest gaming in the series and will be out in wild by the time you’ll read these words. It’s a loot based hack’n’slash RPG in a similar vein to Torchlight, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and even Marvel Ultimate Alliance, except Diablo is set in a high fantasy universe populated with trolls, troggs, imps and demons. All things which you and up to three friends can banish back to the depths of hell with your armour and weaponry found within the randomly generated dungeons and areas the game offers you.
Choosing from one of five classes establishes your role within the group and while there’s no primary healer out of any of them you can be rest assured that all five classes are self sufficient in dealing damage and regenerating their health to ensure your success through the game.
To make sure that not everyone is the same type of character, the game offers a branching tech tree which can be modified with runes and enchantments. If you’ve played World of Warcraft you’ll be pleased to know that the crafting menu in the game feels very similar to that in Diablo 3.
Diablo 3 is in stores now for PC and should be taking over the world as we know it. Once again Blizzard have teased us for years and I for one am completely excited for the game but the only difference now is that I’m no longer 16 and Blizzard can’t ruin my GCSE results.
