CHILDREN in Dunstable celebrated their school becoming an academy with a day of magic, music and balloons.
St Christopher’s Academy – formerly St Christopher’s Lower School – in Gorham Way opened as an academy on April 1.
Celebrations included a special show from magician Magic Dave, who made tables float across the room and provided a puppet performance.
In the afternoon, parents were invited to be entertained by Year 4 pupils who treated them to a guitar concert.
The children then took part in a balloon race, in which they each released a balloon with contact details attached to see whose reaches the furthest.
So far, the furthest to have been returned was from London, but a six-month limit has been set for the competition.
The day’s organiser, deputy head Helen Smith, is excited about the changes at the school.
She said: “It’s an exciting opportunity to make a successful future. This will create a freedom that will be for the good of the children.”
