VOLUNTEERS are required to help out with a programme in Dunstable that serves to tackle the growing problem of childhood obesity.

BeeZee Bodies is designed to offer practical advice to children aged 12-15 and parents and ideas about how to live a healthy life and help control body weight.

The group meet at Priory Middle School on Thursday nights between 6pm and 8pm, and volunteers help with taking a register as people arrive. They also prepare snacks, lend a hand to children completing reward charts, support families in tasks and physical activity, and are of general assistance to members of staff.

The role is an opportunity to gain experience in a forthcoming health intervention, alongside trained nutritionists, and will be useful for people looking to build a career in the field of sports coaching and nutrition. Parents have already found the programme to be a great help and have taken to the BeeZee bodies website to sing its praises.

Abe Kerr of TriLine Fitness, who run the programme, said: “It is something that acknowledges lifestyle choices. The right ones aren’t that easy to make. The idea is to make it interesting and varied for them, and create a feeling of camaraderie which everyone enjoys.”

One child said: “It is true to say that we have loved every minute and gained so much. It really is life-changing.”
