CENTRAL Beds Council are urging people to ‘give back to the earth’ as part of compost awareness week
“Give Back to the Earth” this Compost Awareness Week.
About a third of all household waste is made up of organic materials such as vegetable peelings, garden material and coffee grounds, which can be turned into compost.
Composting is an inexpensive and simple activity, and it provides valuable and nutrient-rich food for your garden.
As part of the 12th annual compost week, running from May 7-13, the council are offering compost bins at the cheaper prices of £9 (medium) and £12 (large) until June 30.
Councillor Budge Wells, member for sustainable communities, said: “When organic waste, such as potato peelings or grass cuttings, is put into your black bin, it gets taken to landfill where it decomposes producing methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
By recycling this waste at home in your compost bin, the same waste breaks down in an environmentally-friendly way and can be used to keep your garden green and looking fantastic!”
