Pressure was on water team!

I HATE to gush, but I’m so glad that the water woes in part of Dunstable have now dried up.

All ready for my morning cuppa, I turned on the cold tap only to find a go-slow on the flow.

It usually bursts out like white water rapids. But this was more like a babbling brook.

I decided it was probably my imagination.

But then I heard of other unhappy households who’d either had the same problem or had no water at all for a while.

So it was time to ask the people with the answers on tap – Veolia Water.

And they told me they would like to apologise to the thousands of people in the area who’d had “water pressure issues”.

The company explained: “We have been carrying out essential works to maintain our Beech Road Reservoir, this is to comply with our statutory obligations as a water undertaking to inspect, clean, and maintain our service reservoirs.

“This work is to safeguard and ensure that water supplied to customers remains of the highest quality.

“We clean and inspect these reservoirs every 10 years and this also complies with our statutory obligations.

“During the work, we had to take out the only reservoir supplying the area but supported this area using two pump stations.

“Without the capability to balance flows, we relied on close control of the pump stations working together to meet demand.

“Unfortunately, the control failed, causing the pumps to turn off and affecting the supplies to about 3,000 properties.

“We have fixed the problem and are confident that supply problems will not occur again.

“We are now filling the reservoir again to provide the extra security.”

Wat-er relief!

I HEAR some lucky Dunstable students who love Italian food can now tuck into school meals just like Mamma makes.

Or rather, just like top chef Gino D’Acampo makes.

For Gino has kindly dreamed up 12 pasta dishes to add a flavour of Italy to the menus at All Saints Academy.

Remember the days when school meals meant giant pies, all sliced up in steel baking tins, and watery veg?

Then there were the mega sponge puds and heavy metal jugs brimming with pink custard, complete with skin on the top

Pass the indigestion tablets!

School nosh is a little more sophisticated nowadays, if All Saints is anything to go by.

Chef Gino has come up with the recipes for catering team Innovate Services.

They’ll feature, on a rotation basis, among the tasty treats on the menu at the academy.

Gino said: “I was excited at being invited to bring a real taste of my native Italy to students across the UK and am proud to have developed these dishes for Innovate.”

Buon appetito, All Saints!

NORTHALL villager Gordon Gray has announced that his 2011 Christmas Puzzle raised £5,300 for good causes close to home and further afield.

There were 324 entries this year, including some from as far away as New Zealand, Australia and Canada, and 29 earned full marks.

If you want to be really organised, you can register now at www.christmaspuzzle.co.uk to receive a copy of the next annual brainteaser.

But you’ll have some time to let the grey cells recover first – the puzzle will only be revealed on December 8.

When it comes to getting ahead for Christmas puzzling, Gordon really is clued up...
