HUNDREDS of marchers created an eye-catching spectacle at the St George’s Day parade by Dunstable District Scouts.

More than 400 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and leaders paraded through Dunstable on Sunday, April 22.

They made their way from Ashton Middle School, in High Street North, to St Mary’s Catholic Church, in West Street.

And they were accompanied by the Glen-Trew Pipe Band, from Watford, and Dunstable Salvation Army Band.

Dunstable District Commissioner Ray Penberthy welcomed guests at the event.

Brian Huke, of Dunstable Salvation Army, conducted a service at the church and hymns were led by Dunstable Salvation Army Band.

A new flag for Scout Active Support was blessed.

And a Silver Acorn, one of the highest awards in Scouting, was given to John Coleman for more than 40 years of Scouting as a leader with the Studham, Kensworth and Whipsnade Scout Group, including 34 years also serving as warden of the Longrove Camp Site.

The Scout Trophy, for points awarded over the year for Scouting activities, was won by the 1st Eaton Bray and Edlesborough Troop and the Explorer Trophy went to the Lionheart Explorer Unit.

As this year marks 10 years of Explorer Scouts, the Explorers gave a presentation about their activities.
