TOWERING office blocks are fast disappearing from the horizon on one of Dunstable’s busiest roads.
Your Gazette has been closely following the work of demolition teams on the Dukeminster Trading Estate, in Church Street.
These shots by our photographer Joanna Cross show how the landscape is changing dramatically at the trading estate.
Demolition work was carried out at another section of the site some time ago.
Some occupied buildings will still be left standing after the current phase is complete.
Planning consent has already been granted for most of the site, owned by Lionsgate Properties, to create 172 new homes, a nursery and a convenience shop.
A new outline planning application submitted to Central Beds Council is for 200 family homes, including affordable housing; a 75-bed care home; assisted living facilities; small convenience shops; offices; and a nursery.
Development director Maurice Fitzgerald, of F&C REIT Asset Management, said: “I think this offers an excellent opportunity to bring back into use previously developed brownfield land in a sustainable location providing an unique range of community facilities.
“The houses will be designed as good quality family homes with the latest environmental technology, not just for current generations but future generations.”
