A NEW campaign could turn your unwanted “pre-loved” furniture and household goods into cash and prizes for your community.
The team behind Preen Furniture Bank, which provides people in need with low-cost goods for their homes, set up the Central Beds campaign.
Rewards will go to community projects in areas which give the best backing to Preen “reuse” centres in West Street, Dunstable, and Biggleswade.
Points are awarded for donating goods or buying items from them.
And they will be totted up in categories, including the biggest tonnage of donated items, the most goods purchased and the highest percentage of residents taking part.
The Preen Community Challenge is also offering special rewards for schools organising “reuse” events.
Preen already collects more than 190 tonnes of unwanted household goods each year.
Anything from furniture to freezers, carpets to cookers and beds to bric-a-brac can be put to good use.
Preen Community Interest Company managing director Kathy Lewis said: “Times are tough for many local families who are struggling to afford basic things.
“We hope that this reward scheme will encourage more people to donate reusable goods to Preen, support neighbours in need and work together to win prizes for the community projects that matter to them.”
> Leaflets about the challenge will be distributed door-to-door. To donate household goods, just take them to a Preen reuse centre. Or arrange a free collection of furniture or large electrical items by calling 0844 9934399 or via www.reusematters.com.
