TWO teenage Dunstable friends are taking on a 500 mile bike ride to raise money for wounded troops.
Shuttleworth College students Daniel Atkins and pal Chris Whittamore, both 17, will begin their cycle around the south-east coast on July 2 from Asda in Court Drive to raise money for Help For Heroes..
They estimate their journey – which will take them through Ipswich, Yarmouth and Brighton – will take about a week.
The pair, who are studying outdoor education, plan to stay in campsites along the way and have already received confirmation from kind-hearted landowners that they can stay in some for free.
Daniel, of Kingsway, has two friends – Brendan and Andy – that are soon joining the armed forces, and wanted to raise money for Help For Heroes.
Daniel, a member of the sea cadets for the last five years, hopes to raise over £300 for the charity, while Chris hopes to raise the same amount for Cancer Research.
It looks like this will not be the last time we see the two young lads raise money for charity.
Daniel told the Gazette: “We’ve been talking about doing something next year, too.
“We did talk about going to Land’s End but it would be too far for our parents to come and help us if we ran into problems. We’ll see what we can do.”
