ANDREW Selous last week met with pupils at a Dunstable school to discuss what can be done to make their town a better place for young people.

The MP for South West Beds met with children at Brewers Hill Middle School on Friday (March 30) who have been learning about the benefits of democracy.

The children researched and devised presentations on issues such as vandalism, closing shops and a lack of activities for young people.

They also wanted to know what is being done about a proposed BMX track and cycling route in Dunstable.

Mr Selous told the Gazette: “The children were very professional. They were very confident, and had obviously put a lot of thought into what they had written.

“It was the best presentation I have seen in years. I was really impressed.”

He said that he has written to the relevant authorities regarding the issues raised, which also included the lack of slides at the leisure centre’s swimming pool and the accessibility of play areas such as Snakes and Ladders in Houghton Regis.

Mr Selous said: “I have spoken with their headteacher and will let them know what can be done on their behalf.”
