Crawley Green 1 Welwyn Garden City 0
CRAWLEY Green deservedly beat Welwyn 1-0 on Wednesday night thanks to a 69-minute goal from skipper Chris Harvey
Playing their fourth game in 11 day, Green had to keep out early efforts from Ryan Jenner and Dave Kiddie before the hosts came close through Courtney Massey and Lee Hayward.
Welwyn almost took the lead when Ryan Soloman shot wide from a corner, before visiting keeper Chris Adams made a stunning save from Jamie Warne’s thunderbolt from 20 yards on 33 minutes.
With Crawley starting to get on top, Hayward missed a sitter when Warne’s cross wasn’t held by Adams, but he missed the ball completely when it seemed easier to score.
After the break, Crawley continued to create chances with Warne and Courtney Massey providing a constant threat.
The deadlock was broken after 69 minutes when the ball broke to Harvey from a corner and with his back to goal, he calmly back-heeled past a flat-footed Adams.
In the final 20 minutes Crawley created numerous chances with Massey, Shrieves and Lee Loasby all going close, while bar a Piero Bagarone effort, City rarely threatened.
On Saturday, Green entertain Langford.
