RESIDENTS want it and the government wants it but Central Beds Council has snubbed returning to a weekly bin collection despite a cash bribe from a £250m pot.
Instead the authority is hoping for backing to the expansion of a scheme that would put a slop bucket in every house in the district.
Last year communities secretary Eric Pickles called for councils to abandon two-weekly collections and return to a weekly service saying it was what householders expected.
He offered to finance the move from a £250m pot providing councils guaranteed that they would retain or reinstate the service for at least five years.
But after consideration CBC has rejected a wholesale return to weekly collections. Instead they want funding to supply homes with a small seven-litre kitchen caddy and a larger 20-litre brown collection container for food waste and it would mean residents could get rid of “the smelly” element from their bins.
